The Pier Diver is our very own distinctive speciality course available ONLY with Island Divers! Since the beginning of civilisation, man has built structures into the seabed, starting with neolithic housing and running through to pleasure piers and hotels in modern times. Divers have a fascination with man-made structures underwater such as wrecks. Piers can be thought of as huge man-made structures and artificial reefs due to the abundance of marine life found living near and under them, which is a big attraction to divers and snorkellers. Piers are concentrated areas with a wealth of plants, vertebrates and invertebrates.
Throughout history, piers have had a varied and prolonged period of use, which is fantastic for divers as lost and discarded objects can be found on the seabed, which help to bring history alive for the diver. Whether your first or your hundredth dive on a pier, few moments in diving compare with descending into the past. Keep that thought, the philosophy of this course is to focus on fun, safe and informative pier diving. A pre-requisite for this course is that you must hold a PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organisation) and be at least 12 years old.
- The Pier Diver speciality course includes a knowledge session and 3 dives over 1 day.
- Certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
