PADI Assistant Instructor Course

The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first section of the Instructor Development Course (IDC). By participating in the Assistant Instructor course, you’ll gain additional experience as a PADI professional and start learning the PADI system of diver education.

What can PADI Assistant Instructors do?

  • Teach PADI academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
  • Teach the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Speciality course
  • Teach Project AWARE Speciality courses
  • Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences

What will I need to start?

  • PADI Divemaster rating (or equivalent from another training organisation)
  • Be a least 18 years old
  • Have 60 logged dives, including night, deep and navigation dives
  • Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
  • Medical declaration signed by a GP

What will I do?

  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations

How long will it take?

The course can take as few as 3 days to complete.

* Please note, all courses are valid for 12 months from day of purchase.

Site entrance fee: There is a fee for open water dives requiring entry to an inland dive site, payable daily by the student. Any boat costs if relevant, will be agreed prior to the course. 

Full SCUBA Equipment is required for the Course. If you need any equipment, you can hire this from Island Divers – just give us a call!
